Pinantan and Paul Lakes are recreational gems north east of Kamloops where many residents make the short commute into Kamloops in order to be able to enjoy the rural lake shore lifestyle without giving up the convenience of the city. Located a 15 minute drive east of Kamloops, Paul Lake is popular with both seasonal and year round residents.
The area is known for water sports, hiking, and other recreational pursuits in the summer and skiing at nearby Harper Mountain in the winter. Many of the properties on the lake are leasehold properties leased out by the Kamloops Indian Band for 25 year terms. Pinantan Lake, just five minutes past Paul Lake, is a smaller lake broken up into Big Pinantan and Little Pinantan. Pinantan Lake derived its name from the word for shoe or moccasin, reflecting the shape of the lake, in the local aboriginal dialect. Pinantan Lake’s nearly 500 residents enjoy access to a general store and an elementary school.
